دَییشدیر- ^ Note that Barlow was appointed major general on May 26, 1865 at the very end of the war and his appointment was not confirmed by the U.S. Senate until February 23, 1866. Eicher, 2001, p. 702. His actual service for much of the war was as a brigadier general. He was awarded the brevet grade of major general of volunteers in December 1864, confirmed February 14, 1865, while he was on sick leave after the Overland Campaign and beginning of the Siege of Petersburg.
- ^ Barlow was nominated for the award of the brevet grade of major general on December 12, 1864 to rank from August 1, 1864 and the award was confirmed February 14, 1865. As noted above, he later was appointed a full major general on May 26, 1865, although the appointment was not confirmed until February 23, 1866
